You have been assessed – SARS

It is great when SARS self assesses you. It means that they’ve done all the hard work and you have to reply within a certain couple of days, right? right?

Nope.

Tax Ref: ******XXX. Your 2020 Year of Assessment tax calculated result is R XXX.xx, based on the information at SARS disposal. You can accept or edit your return through the SARS digital channels. Failure to do so may result in SARS raising an estimate assessment. For more info, visit the SARS website on www.sars.gov.za/TaxTypes/PIT/Tax-Season/Pages/How-does-the-Tax-Calculation-work.aspx

Basically what SARS has done, is in a rush to close of Tax Returns earlier, they have left out other forms or claims that you normally put into your assessment. Don’t get me wrong. If you are an employee, whereby you used to not submit you tax returns, then all is good.

In my case, I am a normal employee, but I have a lot of Medical claims for the year. These have not been taken into account. So now I need to rush and find these documents and edit my return.

Is SARS is hoping most people will fail to edit their return?
